Video Education Workshops

CUSTOMIZED TO MEET THE NEEDS OF EACH PARTNER

Through a four-day Video Education Workshop (VEW), organizations build their capacity to use video and mobile projectors to better engage with communities and use effective behavior change communication videos for training.

OMPT believes in the power of learning by doing. We administer a four-day hands on-workshop designed to teach beginners how to create, edit, and disseminate video. Our goal is that by the end of the workshop, participants will have learned how to translate their behavior change curriculum into the powerful and effective medium of video that can be screened in local villages.

VEWs involve interactive sessions that are a combination of lecture and hands-on training. These sessions occur over four-days and include:

  • Introduction to video as a tool for behavior change communication

  • Content creation: storyboarding and scriptwriting

  • Community-driven content creation: Filming in the beneficiary community

  • Content creation: Editing videos

  • Training on mobile projectors and how to effectively show videos at the community level through mediated discussion

  • Personalized consultation session with leadership and participants to design video production and screening workflow schedule

The workshop is structured in a series of lectures followed by hands-on skills practice with the equipment. Each small group of 7-9 participants is responsible for creating one video over the course of the four day workshop. The entire production process is managed by the participants.

These hands-on trainings are facilitated by OMPT Staff, members of Videomakers without Borders, and our network of Local Video Trainers. Participants learn all of the basic skills to produce content including storyboarding, shooting, audio, lighting, and editing, and dissemination.

The workshop is designed for non-technical staff members without any prior knowledge of video production; the only prerequisite is that participants are familiar with using a laptop computer. During the workshop, OMPT works with our partner organization to create a realistic video production and screening schedule. Follow up training sessions are arranged with OMPT’s local video trainers.

We leverage a network of 1,500 Local Video Trainers in 55 countries who have opted-in to work with OMPT on projects within their countries. Local Video Trainers co-facilitate lectures, serve as translators and provide post workshop training sessions.

OMPT Equipment Kits

OMPT works with trainers and educators in the world's most disadvantaged countries to identify specific constraints in delivering their behavior-change communications.

Our equipment kits are designed to address common development challenges such as illiteracy and lack of internet or electricity.

OMPT’s proprietary equipment kits are easy to use, portable and powered through solar energy or scooter battery. As the second component of our three-part intervention, OMPT provides camera, projector and recharge kits designed to meet the needs of each organization and location.

All of our equipment is vetted by Videomaker.com, a renowned audiovisual company with over 30 years of industry excellence. We constantly review and research our products to ensure we are offering the highest quality equipment that will last for years with the proper care.

Each kit contains everything needed to create and disseminate video and recharge the equipment. Every cable, adapter, and connector is accounted for, ensuring our partners will not have to search for extra parts or additional pieces. Our kits are designed to work together for a seamless, effortless experience that allows the user to focus on what’s most important: the behavior change communication and curriculum.

Camera Kit - For Creating Video

A single video camera can record thousands of stories, and we believe that a quality image is crucial for engagement and communication. Our camera kits include a video camera, tripod, lapel microphone, and SD cards for storage. The cameras themselves are easy-to-use, intuitive, durable and easily transportable. They can also be programmed to almost any language.

Projector Kit - For Showing Videos

Our projector kits include a handheld mobile projector, a tripod, a speaker and all the other equipment necessary to easily show a video in rural communities.

Small and handheld yet capable of serving an audience of up to 50 attendees, our projectors have a battery life of up to two hours. Like everything else in our kits, they are easily transportable and built for use in rural or remote locations.

Charging Kit - For Recharging Equipment

Our recharge kits are vital in bringing video communication to rural communities. Included in this kit are: solar panels and cables that allow the camera, projector, and speakers to be recharged via sun, motorscooter, or automobile. This kit allows staff to charge and use the equipment in the field whether they have access to electricity or not, enabling our partners to reach communities that may lack modern infrastructure but desperately require the intervention our partners provide.

Many OMPT Equipment Kits have been deployed in some of the poorest communities in the world to make a difference. Have a look at our Projects for more pictures and further insight into what we do!

Capacity Development Program

Our intervention is designed and implemented in a way so that our partner organizations will be fully autonomous with video production after our collaboration. With their newfound skills and equipment, organizations will be fully capable of integrating video and mobile projectors into future projects and proposals without the need for expensive outsourcing. It is our goal that video becomes an innate part of the communication strategy and the staff of our partner organizations are confident and capable in creating and showing videos for future behavior change needs. To ensure seamless and scalable integration of video creation and dissemination into our partner’s communication strategy, OMPT will provide one year of behavior change communications capacity development post our Video Education Workshop(s).

The capacity development program includes:

Personalized consultation from OMPT’s leadership for strategy integration and workflow development

  • Scheduled Skype sessions with OMPT staff for support, troubleshooting, and further training

  • Monthly training sessions with an OMPT Local Video Trainer for workshop participants

  • Access to OMPT’s network of Local Video Trainers based in the partner’s country

During the Video Education Workshop, OMPT works with partner organization staff to establish a scheduled timeline for video creation over the following 12 months. OMPT also knows that ongoing support is essential to successful incorporation of video into behavior change communication programs. Therefore, technical and creative support is always available by phone or Skype. A Local Video Trainer will provide in-person follow up at office monthly for three months following completion of the workshop. OMPT also knows that immediate application of skills learned in the Workshop is important for knowledge retention and practice integration. Therefore, OMPT supports creating three videos and hosting three screenings of these videos within the first three months post-workshop. OMPT staff will provide technical, remote follow-up every three months for one year to ensure successful adoption of video into behavior change communications strategy. Staff are happy to answer questions, troubleshoot, and help guide projects.

Furthermore, OMPT is available to help scale and/or launch pilot projects. Once success has been documented, OMPT can help an organization to procure more equipment and train up additional staff to meet the needs of the program.
