Pico projectors have untold potential to help disseminate video in places without reliable electricity. Advancements in LED technology have led to major innovations in these products. Bright, battery powered, portable, durable and affordable, the pico projector is the most exciting technological innovation in using video for development in the last 10 years.

Some examples of current models of pico projectors include:

AAXA  Projector

The M1 is the brightest small projector at 66 lumens.  Files are stored on 1 GB internal memory or SD card slot.

Aiptek Pico Projector

The Aiptek Pico Projector is 10 lumens The
Blue screen is the user interface which allows selecting files stored on 1 GB internal memory or SD card slot

 (Screen brightness enhanced)

Video is stored on flash media so there  is no need for an internet connection

SD cards and USB thumb drives are two examples of flash media data storage devices.

In mid 2010 the cost for a 500 GB Hard Disk Drive Media Player is $200 which can hold 1,000 hours of video.

Use a video screen

Every lumen counts. Every photon (a discrete bundle of light energy) is precious. As you know, recharging batteries can be a burden.
A bright and vibrant image will have a larger impact on the viewers.
Ideally you want every photon that exits the projector to bounce off the screen and into the retina of the eyes of the viewers.

Batteries can be recharged via solar panels so there  is no need for a wall outlet

1.5 Watt solar panel
12 volt to 5 volt USB Adapter
 Typical USB charge cable
Aiptek Pico Projector can be charged with this method but there is not enough amperage to RUN the projector
