EDC is helping Paraguay’s Ministry of Education and Culture to promote interest in math among young children and support their instructors to teach early numeracy more effectively. The Paraguay Early Childhood IRI Math Program nurtures positive attitudes toward mathematics and develops a solid foundation in basic math among children four to six years old.
Interactive Radio Instruction (IRI), which only requires a radio and an adult facilitator, reaches large numbers of teachers and learners who are isolated by distance and poor infrastructure. It can be used in almost any setting, from formal classrooms to community learning centers to outdoor venues.
Results:
EDC is helping the government of Paraguay develop a series of Interactive Radio Instruction programs in early numeracy and train about 400 teachers in the proper use and implementation of the hybrid curriculum.
The program is being developed and piloted with the potential for expansion in Paraguay and to serve as a model for other countries in Latin America.
