Media Preparation Links

Preparing digital audio and video files is required in order get transfer audio lessons onto portable media players (PMPs).

For audio files preparation the may be as many as two steps.

Step 1
If the audio files are stored on a compact disc (CD) the files are most likely in a format named WAV (or WAVE), short for Waveform audio format, is a standard for storing an audio bitstream on PCs. Digital audio extraction or Ripping is the process of copying audio files from a CD to a hard disk. A CD ripper or extractor is a piece of software designed to extract or "rip" raw digital audio from a compact disc to a file or other output. If the audio source files are already stored on a computer's hard disc, this step is unnecessary.

Step 2
WAV files are very large compared to MP3 audio files, as much as ten times as large. Converting a WAV file into an MP3 file compresses the file so more audio can be stored on a PMP or flash drive. There are many software packages to convert WAV files into MP3 files.

The sound quality is fairly good when using these setting for spoken word audio or voice files. A one hour audio file is about 14 megabytes (MB) One Gigabyte (GB) can store about 70 hours of voice files.
